About us

Background

The recent statistics show there is a large unemployment specially among youth and recent graduates in the northern and eastern regions of Sri Lanka. The regions are underdeveloped and are underperforming in many human development factors and seem not have plans to educate and train the next generation workforce to meet the future challenges and create long lasting, sustainable industries with growth potentials and employment opportunities. Moreover, the regions have limited with natural resources and are experiencing deteriorating climate and environmental conditions. These factors are putting enormous strain on sectors like farming and fishing, and those who are dependent on them. Nevertheless, the regions still have a decent education system and have two universities, which have a strong desire to help the local businesses and develop new enterprises.

TamilSeed aims to develop an innovation and entrepreneurship program targeting primarily the universities and high school students. The program aims to stimulate and motivate the students to define their projects with the help of the faculty and teachers and produce need based innovation. The results will become part of an innovation radar program with the objective to develop them further into products and/or services that can scale. In this way we aim to create innovative companies and employment opportunities that should also kick start and boost the service sector and should attract employment opportunities for a large workforce.
